RD1 Mizunara

Our vision for this Limited Release was to balance the sweet sophistication of the French Oak with the woodsy nature of Mizunara in a well-aged Bourbon and Rye. We started with the French Oak, which we wanted to heavily influence the bourbon. After the barrels had aged for five years, we inserted medium toasted French Oak wood “necklaces” into the original American White Oak barrels, allowing it to rest for twice as long as our portfolio French Oak Bourbon. We then blended the 5-year finished bourbon with 7-year Bourbon and 8-year Rye to advance the confluence of flavors. Finally, we added lightly toasted Mizunara wood staves to the whiskey blend for a much shorter amount of finishing time to delicately introduce its character of sandalwood and Oriental incense.
